Visual Pronunciation App for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Learners

Designed as a supplemental tool for speech-language practice, this app provides a visual way for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who choose to practice spoken-word pronunciation to work toward their personal communication goals.

For young learners, this app is intended specifically for pronunciation practice and is not intended to replace the learner’s broader language development, communication methods, or professional speech-language support. The app does not assume that spoken language is the preferred or necessary form of communication. Users of any age can engage with the pronunciation activities at their own pace and according to their individual preferences.

Users select a word they would like to practice and receive visual feedback related to their pronunciation. When their pronunciation sufficiently matches the selected target, the app celebrates their progress with engaging visual rewards, such as fireworks.

The app is designed to support individual communication and learning goals while allowing users to decide whether spoken-language practice is meaningful or useful for them. It provides visual feedback rather than relying on auditory feedback, making the practice accessible without requiring sound.
